Marketing Minor for Non-Business Majors
If you're not looking to major in business, but know that a general knowledge of marketing will support your career, then you should consider earning a Minor in Marketing from the Department of Business Administration. The Marketing Minor for Non-Business Majors will give students an understanding of product development, pricing, promotion, and distribution of goods, services and ideas (BUS 360), of how to analyze the cultural, social, and psychological factors that influence a consumer’s decision-making processes (BUS 367), of how strategies and decision making are managed (BUS 469), of graphic design in advertising and promotions (BUS 361), and of personal selling and Salesforce management (BUS 463).
Requirements for the Minor in Marketing
The Minor requires 5 courses (20 units):

- BUS 360 Introduction to Marketing (4 units)
- BUS 361 Marketing Graphics (4 units)
- BUS 367 Consumer Behavior (4 units)
- BUS 463 Sales Management and Personal Selling (4 units)
- BUS 469 Marketing Management (4 units)
Program Learning Outcomes
Students who complete the Marketing Minor for Non-Business Majors will have the ability to:
1. Integrate marketing, consumer behavior, management, marketing creativity, and sales skills and concepts
2. Develop business ideas into marketing practices within organizations
3. Recognize the value of a customer-focused mindset.
Who Can Declare a Minor in Marketing
To apply for the Marketing Minor, you must have a minimum GPA of 2.50 and have completed at least 60 units of college-level coursework.
Students usually take one Minor course per semester, but you may take two in a single semester if seats are available. Courses can be taken during the regular academic semesters and, when offered, during summer and winter intersession.
How to Declare a Minor in Marketing
To declare and add the Marketing Minor, complete the Change of Major/Minor form.
When completing the form:
- In the "Adding a Major/Minor" section, select Minor.
- In the New Program field, enter Marketing Minor for Non-Business Majors.
- For Catalog Year, please enter the year in which you declare the Marketing Minor.
- Once you have completed and digitally signed the form, it is automatically submitted and routed to the SSU Registrar’s Office for approvals.

How to Register for Courses
Lower Division Course (BUS 230A)
- Those listed as Marketing Minors on their ARR (check you MySSU) can register starting the Monday of the 2nd week of registration.
- The course will be open to everyone starting the Monday of the 3rd week of registration.
Note: it takes up to two weeks to process your declaration, so don't count on registering during the 2nd week if you apply within two weeks of the start of registration.
Complete a request to Take an Upper Division Business Administration Course form before or during the first week of registration.

- Do not forget to provide options, in case the section requested does not have room. We need options and your preferred order to easily find a section or another class that works for you.
- A staff member will contact you on the Monday of the 2nd week of registration with a permission number for your course. If none of your options are open, contact your Minor Advisor to find something that moves you forward and fits into your schedule.
