Entrepreneurship Minor for Non-Business Majors

Are you looking to gain knowledge to start an enterprise, but you are not from the School of Business? The Entrepreneurship Minor for Non-Business Students is designed for students in any major (other than Business Administration) who want to develop entrepreneurial skills– either to start their own business and/or to think more innovatively within an existing organization.

Requirements for the Minor in Entrepreneurship

  • The Minor requires 5 courses (20 units): 4 required courses and 1 elective. We recommend taking the elective (BUS 386MG or BUS 451) as your final course in the Entrepreneurship Minor.

    Required Courses:

    • BUS 230A  Financial Accounting (4 units). You must complete BUS 230A first, as it makes you eligible to enroll in the 300- and 400-level Business courses. A transfer equivalent may be accepted with approval from the department chair; see the Advisory Transfer List for acceptable community college courses.
    • BUS 360  Introduction to Marketing (4 units)
    • BUS 453  Small Business Analysis (4 units)
    • BUS 454  Entrepreneurial Finance (4 units)

    Elective Course (choose One):

    • BUS 386MG  Social Entrepreneurship (4 units)
    • BUS 451  Entrepreneurship / Small Business Management (4 units)

How the courses fit together: BUS 360 and BUS 453 help you understand small businesses — how entrepreneurs position and present themselves and their products or services, and how they make decisions. BUS 230A and BUS 454 help you understand how to raise, source, and manage money. BUS 386MG or BUS 451 lets you deepen your knowledge and develop an idea for a business or entrepreneurial pursuit.
Note: All 300-level and 400-level courses MUST be completed at Sonoma State University.
